Entry Acceptance Rules

Each entry will consist two (2) 12 to 22 ounce capped bottles, or two corked bottles, that are void of all identifying information, including labels and embossing. Printed caps are allowed, but must be blacked out completely. There is one exception:

  • One (1) 750ml bottle can be substituted for the two bottle requirement, with the caveat that the entrant acknowledges that their entry's contents may change significantly between initial judging and any Mini-BOS or Best of Show rounds.

12oz brown glass bottles are preferred; however, green and clear glass will be accepted. Swing top bottles will likewise be accepted.

Bottles will not be returned to contest entrants.

Bottle labels must be printed directly from the this website and should be attached to bottles as directed.

When adding your entry to the system, be meticulous about noting any special ingredients that must be specified per the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines. Failure to note such ingredients may impact the judges’ scoring of your entry.

Brewers are not limited to one entry in each category but may only enter each subcategory once. For example, participants may enter a Belgian Blonde and Belgian Saison but may not enter two Saisons, even if they are radically different brews.

Packing and Shipping

Carefully pack your entries in a sturdy box. Line the inside of your carton with a plastic trash bag. Partition and pack each bottle with adequate packaging material. Please do not over pack!

Write clearly: Fragile. This Side Up. on the package. Please only use bubble wrap as your packing material.

Enclose each of your bottle labels in a small zip-top bag before attaching to their respective bottles. This way it makes it possible for the organizer to identify specifically which entry has broken if there is damage during shipment.

Every reasonable effort will be made to contact entrants whose bottles have broken to make arrangements for sending replacement bottles.

If you live in the United States, please note that it is illegal to ship your entries via the United States Postal Service (USPS). Private shipping companies have the right to refuse your shipment if they are informed that the package contains glass and/or alcoholic beverages. Be aware that entries mailed internationally are often required by customs to have proper documentation. These entries might be opened and/or returned to the shipper by customs officials at their discretion. It is solely your responsibility to follow all applicable laws and regulations.

The awards ceremony will take place following lunch and once judging is completed. Places will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for each judging table. Medals and prizes are yet to be determined - based upon previous competitions, the prize booty will be pretty significant. Additional prizes may be awarded to those winners present at the awards ceremony at the discretion of RHBC.

Entires that advance to the Best of Show (BOS) round are available for selection by a professional brewery to be brewed as their ProAm entry into the 2018 Great American Beer Festival. The following are participating Bière de Rock pro-am breweries:

* Please note: The ProAm opportunity is only open to current AHA members. The homebrewer brewing their recipe with the professional brewery CANNOT be, or have ever been, an employee of that brewery or on the brewing staff, which includes employees involved in the brewing process (i.e. brewer, lab technician, cellar crew) at any brewery.
